Inception
The roots of Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri Library, GDC Kupwara dates back to 1988 with the inception of "Government Degree College Kupwara". However after functioning from different departments for many years, the present multi-storied library building was formally established in the year 2009-10 in the name of Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri Library. Primarily an academic library with a vast collection of learning and resource materials, it stands established to cater the academic needs and general development of undergraduate students and teachers of the college. With an adequate infrastructure, modern facilities, highly qualified and professional human resource, the Library is presently center of attraction having its total collection of 29000 books segregated into different mini-libraries which are effectively and efficiently managed for the larger academic interests of students and teachers of the college. The total collection of library has been classified according to internationally acclaimed Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The library has a dedicated internet facility to allso that the student and teaching community can communicate conveniently and collaborate with academic counterparts locally and internationally. It is an automated library with the bibliographical details of entire collection entered in MARC Format in SOUL 3.0 Library Management Software with barcode labels pasted on all books. The OPAC of library provides simple as well as advance search facilities with the choice of Boolean operators, neverthelessthe students of this college have been found mostly using simple search option with the preferential choices of title and author search.
