About the Department

The Department of Physical Education at Government Degree College Kupwara has been an integral part of the institution since its early years, contributing significantly to the holistic development of students. While the college traces its origins to 1988 and shifted to its permanent campus in 2000, the department was  strengthened  with the sanctioning of the Physical Training Instructor post.

Since its establishment, the department has been actively promoting sports culture and physical fitness among students. It regularly organizes and participates in various sporting events across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, students of the college have represented the institution at Inter-University, National and even International levels, bringing recognition and pride.

As a District Lead College, the department is committed to providing modern sports infrastructure and quality training facilities. A major milestone in this direction is the establishment of a state-of-the-art Indoor Sports Multipurpose Complex, realized under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Rashid Malik. This facility reflects the college’s dedication to excellence in sports and aligns with the vision of holistic education under NEP 2020.

The department continues to strive for excellence by nurturing talent, encouraging participation, and fostering a spirit of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
