Report on the Celebration of the 150th Year Anniversary of the Commemoration of “Vande Mataram” Organized by the Department of History, NSS Units, and NCC of Government Degree College Kupwara in Collaboration with District Administration Kupwara at Town Hall, Kupwara Held on 7th November 2025

The Department of History, N55, Units, and NCC of Government Degree College Kupwara, in collaboration with the District Administration Kupwara, organized a grand celebration to mark the 150th Year Anniversary of the Commemoration of “Vande Mataram” on 7th November 2025 at the Town Hall, Kupwara, The event aimed to pay tribute to the immortal national song “Vonde Mataram,” which continues to symbolize the ideals of patriotism, unity, and devotion to the motherland.

The programme was conducted under the patronage of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Rashid Malik, Government Degree College Kupwara, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mr. Gulzar Ahmad. Their presence and encouragement elevated the significance of the event and inspired everyone to uphold the spirit of national unity embedded in Vonde Motaram.”

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Khalid Bashir, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of History, who presented a comprehensive and thought provoking address on the historical, cultural, and national significance of “Vande Mataram.” He traced its origin to Rankim Chandra Chatterjee’s composition in the 1870s, elaborating on its pivotal role during the Indian freedom struggle and its continued relevance as a symbol of India’s collective spirit. His lecture, filled with historical insight and eloquence, was highly appreciated by the audience and was broadcast live across the district for wider reach.

The event was jointly organized by Dr. Khalid Bashir, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of History; Dr. Mohammad Abbas Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of EVS and NSS Programme Officer; and Dr. Mohammad Rafi Hajam, Head, Department of Economics and NCC Officer, Their dedicated coordination and teamwork ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.

The            event                 witnessed            enthusiastic participation from faculty members, NSS volunteers, and NCC cadets of the college, who played a vital role in organizing and managing various segments of the celebration. Their active involvement reflected the college’s ongoing commitment to fostering civic responsibility, discipline, and patriotic values among students.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, extending sincere appreciation to the District Administration Kupwara, the college authorities, and all participants for their valuable support. The celebration stood as a vibrant tribute to the song that united millions during India’s freedom movement and continues to echo as a timeless invocation of national pride and devotion.
